As a specialist arm of DaRo UV Systems (see “about us” page) we have a long-standing pedigree in designing, manufacturing and supplying high quality and cost- effective UV solutions to an extensive range of industries from Medical to Food, from hairdressing to schools; the applications are almost endless.
Surface UV disinfection has a long history of success but exactly what is UV Surface disinfection?
According to the UV Germicidal Irradiation handbook, surface disinfection usually refers either to the disinfection of building and ventilation system internal surfaces or (and in our view more commonly) the disinfection of equipment and material surfaces such as dental and medical equipment.
Contaminated surfaces are often a source of airborne microbes which in turn often produce surface contamination. As can probably be easily seen, the interaction between air and surface contamination means that combinations between UV air and UV surface disinfection applications are often inseparable, most often in the healthcare and food sectors.
In a totally natural situation, germs are killed and bacteria and fungi are prevented from spreading to a certain extent by being exposed to everyday sunlight. The benefits of this commonly occurring disinfection process can be adopted and managed more effectively by the application of UV radiation in a sustained, controlled and measurable way.
A term that is often used is germicidal ultraviolet when referring to UV disinfection or UV-C light but simply put, what is it? UV-C light is germicidal – it is called germicidal because the way it works is to deactivate the DNA of the bacteria, viruses and pathogens and actually destroys any ability that they had to multiply thereby causing disease – even more than simply stopping the organism from reproducing the method will ensure that the organism actually dies when it tries to replicate.
Due to UV-C light’s rapid action, it can be used on moving as well as static surfaces.
UV surface disinfection systems are successful, simple, cost-effective and importantly, do not add chemicals or other potential risks to the mix. As demands for higher quality, are sought from the food industry they are now turning to UV surface disinfection technology to provide even higher food hygiene standards, whilst reducing its dependence on chemical disinfection.
Ultraviolet surface disinfection has many varied applications treating food products and packaging directly, as well as localised disinfection of the handling equipment and surrounding airspace.
surfacedisinfection.co.uk and DaRo UV Systems supply standard products and bespoke systems to food, medical, pharmaceutical and many other hygiene-conscious industries.
Typical Applications for UV Surface Disinfection
UV surface disinfection is a practical treatment method for materials such as plastics, metal and glass as well as a broad range of food products.
Care is required when selecting your systems as some manufacturers’ poorly designed systems are known to have increased hazard levels in the food manufacturing environment.
• Dairy product packaging
• Fresh and dried herbs
• Bread products
• Soft fruits
• Meat packaging
• Laboratory surfaces
• Medical packaging
• Hairdressing equipment
• Dental equipment
• Veterinary equipment
• Face masks
• Treatment of products prior to packaging
• DNA Culture test tubes etc
UV treatment offers major advantages over thermal or chemical methods, which may be incompatible with either the product or its packaging. It also disinfects water products for use in soft drinks, beer and concentrates effectively, as well as liquid sweeteners.
UV is an effective and secure way of disinfecting surfaces and the system is easy to operate and maintain, which brings down total running costs. UV treatment does not damage or modify the physical characteristics of your product nor does it change the taste or generate byproducts. UV simply makes the product better by assuring a bacteria free environment and hence improving quality.
In conjunction with DaRo UV Systems, surfacedisinfection.co.uk can offer a multitude of systems and applications from Batten units used to disinfect rooms, the Steristrom disinfection cabinet designed to keep equipment for hairdressers and doctors such as scissors and scalpels in a disinfection environment, through to our UV transfer tunnels that will disinfect food and packaging via a conveyor belt system.
We have a very extensive list of standard products on offer as well as the design and development capabilities available to produce bespoke systems where required.
We understand most clients have special requirements. As we are the manufacturers of this product, we will undertake to design and manufacture a specialist solution based upon standard lamp assemblies. This ensures that the biological performance is not compromised and that servicing costs are kept to a minimum.
All surfacedisinfection.co.uk / DaRo UV Systems units are designed with unique safety features, giving a high level of user confidence.
